A Bible credit is either read as coursework or skimmed past, and the difference is the description sitting under it. Here are the descriptions. Twenty-six in the Protestant edition, thirty in the Catholic. In your house Scripture was real work, and this is what it looks like written down for someone who was not there.

What is in it

  • Protestant edition, 26 descriptions: Old Testament survey, New Testament survey, whole-Bible survey, Life of Christ, Acts and the early church, wisdom literature, the Pauline epistles, apologetics, worldview, church history in two halves, introduction to theology, Christian ethics, how to study the Bible, memory and recitation, missions and missionary biography, a Christian service practicum, Christian classics, hymnody and sacred music, Bible geography and archaeology, introductory Greek, introductory Hebrew, comparative religions, the Church Fathers, family devotional reading, and Lewis and Tolkien.
  • Catholic edition, 30 descriptions: the same twenty-six with the wording adjusted, plus the Catechism of the Catholic Church, Lives of the Saints, Liturgy and the Sacraments, and Catholic apologetics.
  • Level and credit on every one. Regular or Honors, whole credit or half, so a semester in Acts is booked as a semester rather than padded out to a year.
  • An "Aligns with" line on each description, naming the academic course or curriculum shape it usually sits beside.

Scripture and translations

Very little scripture is printed in either file. A description names the books a course covered and the shape of the year, and it leaves the translation to you, because your student read whichever Bible sits on your shelf. The epigraph on the cover is the King James in the Protestant edition and the Douay-Rheims in the Catholic. Public-domain texts only, here and everywhere else we publish. We will not reproduce a copyrighted translation, and we will not paraphrase one to get around that.

One thing to watch when you write a reference into your own copy: Douay psalm numbers run one behind the King James through most of the Psalter, so the shepherd psalm is Psalm 22 in a Douay-Rheims and Psalm 23 in a King James. Check the number against the translation you are naming.

What is not in it

Faith courses only. The 131 academic descriptions are a separate file. No transcript, no state summaries, no forms, no guide. It is also not curriculum: these describe study your family already did, they do not assign it.

Straight answers

Will a college count a Bible credit? Some count it in full, some count it as an elective, and some discount it. A description will not change a college's policy. What it does is make the credit legible, so the reader can see the hours and the books instead of guessing.

Does a state require Bible? We know of no state that lists Bible among its required subjects. Treat these as credits your family chose to give, not credits anyone asked you for.

How many hours is one credit? The convention repeated across the field is 120 to 180 hours for a full credit and 60 to 90 for a half. The descriptions are written to that scale.

Which edition do I get? The one you choose at checkout. They are two separate files.

What format? A Word .docx file, editable. Rewrite it to your own translation, your own reading plan, your own church.

About the price, honestly

$14 on its own, and one purchase covers every child you teach. It is also inside the Homeschool High School Records System at $39, which holds the transcript workbook, the 131 academic descriptions, the fifty-one state summaries, the records pack and the guide as well. Any three of our standalone files come to at least $42, and all four come to $66. If this is the only piece you want, buy it on its own. Paired with one other file you are somewhere between $26 and $38, so do your own sum. Once a third file goes in the cart the system is the cheaper way round, and we would rather tell you now.

Instant download. Personal single-household use. If it is not right for you, write to us within 14 days and we will refund it without asking you to justify it.
